How Eyia Retreats
Was Born
The Eyia Retreats concept originated many years ago when our founder, Katrina Paraskevopoulos, wanted to find a way to combine her passion for sharing Greek culture & love of the beautiful sea with wellness & healing. Being Greek-American, she spent summers in Greece visiting her family. Through the years, she found immense peace and healing there. She always felt it was truly her “happy place.” Katrina believes that Greece has the ability to heal every worry, relieve deep tension, bring comfort to your belly, and leave a big smile on your face.
Through the years, she contemplated various ideas for how she can share her passions and what she has learned with others. She realized that hosting retreats would provide an opportunity to share with others the journey to peace, bliss and healing that I experienced in Greece. Katrina set to work on planning her first retreat in 2019, and the seeds of something bigger were officially planted.
Her first retreat in Milos was booked so she flew to Greece a few weeks before the retreat was scheduled to begin. With her Greek partner, she took a short trip to the island, Naxos. They were sitting on the patio of a small family-run room rental dreaming up names for her potential future retreat company. While relaxing outside watching the sea, they brainstormed interesting spins on Greek-English words, Greek translations of English words, and ancient Greek words.
During the brainstorming session, they discussed the Greek Goddess Hygieia, the Goddess of Health. The Greek Goddess Hygieia was associated with the prevention of illness and focused on how one can live a long and happy life. Katrina loved this concept because of her passion for holistic health and wellness. To simplify the spelling and pronunciation, she developed “Eyia,” (pronounced ee-yaa).
