If you are traveling to Greece in the summer, check out our Greek Summer Packing Tips so you can have the best experience in this magical country.
Is there anything worse than having to spend hours in uncomfortable, painful, and just the plain wrong shoes?!
The first time I went to Santorini I packed a pair of heels and wore them for a walk into town and dinner – big mistake. The walkway is so cobbly that I could only pay attention to every single step I was taking, and every step was painful. I was kicking myself for wearing them because it made it difficult to enjoy the beauty that surrounded me.
So we at Eyia Retreats are here for you today to make sure you know exactly what to pack and what not to pack on your summer trip to Greece.
Proper Footwear
Of course you will need your beach sandals but also bring a pair of sandals for nighttime dining and strolling. We do not recommend packing or wearing high heels. The marble, cobblestone, and unpaved roads are not suitable for high heels. We also recommend a pair of sneakers for your travel time and adventures, especially if you will be in the city and exploring ancient sites. Even on the islands it is nice to have a pair of sneakers for walks, hikes and site seeing.
Beachwear
It depends on how long you will be in Greece, but we recommend packing at least two swimsuits and beach covers that you can alternate between. If you are not staying at a hotel, we also recommend packing your own beach towel.
Sun protection
It can get extremely hot in the summer in Greece, so please, do not forget your sun protection. Bring plenty of sunscreen, a full coverage hat and sunglasses. You can even consider swimsuits and clothing with SPF protection.
Clothing
You will want to pack light clothes, like linen and cotton, that are breathable and dry fast. Pack light colored clothes that do not absorb the heat. If you will be traveling with the ferry while in Greece, make sure you pack a light jacket, scarf and/or pants; it can get cool inside the ferry. If you will be on the islands, the nights can sometimes be cooler as well as windy, so bring a cover up in case the temperature drops and winds pick up.
Motion Sickness Support
If you will be traveling by ferry while in Greece, consider bringing motion sickness support with you or buying some up from a Greek pharmacy once you arrive. You can try the motion sickness bands for your wrists, ginger or natural meds, or travel gum. You may also need these if you are doing any driving tours; the roads can potentially be windy and bumpy.
Extra
You will need the proper electrical adapter for Europe in order to charge and use your electronics.
We suggest packing a photocopy of your passport and/or identification card. If something goes wrong and you lose your identification, you will be happy you have a backup.
Do not forget to pack a good attitude! Be a good, kind and respectful guest in a different country.
